Keylogger infections are becoming an increasingly common way for identity thieves to steal your personal and financial information. As such, we here at SpyReveal felt that it would be important to educate our readers on the prime locations for getting your computer infected with a keylogger. We hope that this list will help some of you to avoid these traps, and that you may better protect yourself in the future.
1. Malicious Websites
Malicious websites are a prime point for getting infected with a keylogger. In general, when visiting a malicious website a hacker will take advantage of a security hole on your computer; most often this is a flaw in your computer's browser, but can also be a flaw in your computer's operating system or another program which you have installed. Once you have visited a malicious website it takes only a few minutes for a keylogger to be installed, without your knowledge. In order to know if you have a keylogger installed after visiting a malicious website, you need to have a trusted anti keylogger like SpyReveal ready and waiting to scan for and remove keyloggers from your computer.
2. Malicious Email Attachments
Anti keylogging is often associated with keylogging viruses that have infected your computer via a malicious email attachment. Although many of us feel that such email attachments are easy to recognize, this is not always the case. Many times a hacker will gain access to the email account of a friend or family member, and will then use this access to send you an apparently innocent email with a keylogger email attachment. This attachment could appear to be vacation photos, or another file, which you may feel harmless to download. Once downloaded, you will need an anti-keylogger to remove the keylogger from your computer; although if you do not run regular anti keylogging scans, you may never be aware that a keylogger has been installed on your computer.
3. Installations by Hand
An extremely common scenario is to have a keylogger installed by hand by someone you know. This is often the case when someone you know has some motive for spying on your computer activities, and these keyloggers are often the most difficult to detect by conventional anti virus software. This is because many of these keylogging programs are "legitimate" programs used by parents to monitor the activity of their children - however, in the wrong hands, these programs become a powerful spy tool that is undetectable by conventional anti virus software. To detect keyloggers which other programs perceive as legitimate, you need a quality anti keylogger.
